The San Diego Democratic Women’s Club First Annual Verna King Student Scholarship

The San Diego Democratic Women’s Club is happy to announce its First Annual Verna King Student Scholarship Program. This will be offered in an attempt to aid a graduating female senior who have been accepted into an institution of higher education who has demonstrated a commitment to increasing women’s political participation while enrolled in high school.

One five hundred ($500) scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student from the San Diego County area. We are most interested in reaching and assisting those students who have demonstrated academic promise, have demonstrated a commitment to increasing women’s political involvement and who has financial need.

Purpose of the Award

The SDDWC Verna King Student Scholarship was created in 2006 to honor our President Emeritus, Ms. Verna King, for over sixty years of community engagement as an educator, political activist and proponent of women’s advancement in all areas of life.

The San Diego Democratic Women’s Club is seeking to further the higher education opportunities among qualified graduating high school senior women students who are residents of San Diego County and have been accepted into an institution of higher education. It is our desire to offer financial assistance and community recognition to a young lady from the area who has done well academically, has devoted some time in her high school career advancing women’s political participation and who is in need of financial assistance.

The Award

We are asking that you would please assist us by issuing the below applications to all qualifying students attending San Diego County high schools who have been accepted for admission to an institution of higher education. For students to be given consideration, the full and complete application must be postmarked by February 2, 2007. Applications mailed after the February 2, 2007 as well as those without transcripts and supportive required documents will not be considered. Semi-finalists will be notified during the week of February 20th . Finalist will be notified by February 25th.
