Pat Washington Racks Up Endorsements in June 6th Race for San Diego Democratic Central Committee, 78th District

San Diego, Calif.—Dr. Pat Washington, President of the San Diego Democratic Women’s Club, has racked up an impressive array of endorsements in her run for the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee, 78th District. To date, she has received the endorsement of California State Senator Christine Kehoe; San Diego County Democratic Central Committee Chair Jess Durfee; San Diego County Council of Democratic Clubs Chair and We the People Democratic Club President Cheryl Alethia Phelps; San Diego Democratic Club Fundraising Chair Larry Baza, San Diego Democratic Women’s Club President EmeritusVerna King; 78th District Central Committee Candidates Ed Lehman and Eric Hereford; 79th District Central Committee Candidate Michelle Krug; the San Diego Democratic Women’s Club; and the San Diego Democratic Club.

Since moving to San Diego in 1996, Dr. Pat Washington has held a number of organizational leadership positions and participated in a broad range of activities, including serving as the Education Chair for the San Diego Branch NAACP, Board member for the Lambda Letters Project, Co-Chair of the People of Color Organizing Institute for the NGLTF Creating Change Conference, chair of the Women of Color Caucus of the National Women’s Studies Association, Vice Chair of the Intergroup Relations Project of the San Diego Foundation, volunteer for the American Red Cross, and member of the Board of Directors of Diversionary Theater. She is currently President of the San Diego Democratic Women’s Club, Chair of the Lambda Letters Project, Co-Chair of We Advocate Gender Equity (WAGE), Executive Committee member and Section Director of the California State Conference of the NAACP, Chair of the Ways & Means Committee of Filipino American Community Empowerment, Secretary to the National Women’s Studies Association, and 78th District delegate to the Democratic Central Committee.

Dr. Washington worked in voter outreach and voter registration efforts for the San Diego “No on 54” Campaign, and she also worked with We the People Democratic Club, San Diego Democratic Club, the San Diego Branch NAACP and other organizations to increase voter registration and voter turnout for elections.

From 1996-2003, Dr. Washington taught classes for San Diego State University’s Women’s Studies Department where she successfully coordinated student participation in community-based service learning projects, including many involving student participation in local and state campaigns for political office.

Dr. Washington is a member of the San Diego Democratic Club and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Democratic Club. She served as a delegate to the State Democratic Convention in 2004 and 2005, and she also served as a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Washington is currently filling a vacancy on the Central Committee caused by the departure of friend and mentor, Ms. Verna Lee King. Washington is seeking election to this seat on June 6, 2006.
